Tabio has teamed up with Menswear designer Carolyn Massey to produce a collection for Autumn/Winter 2010 and Carolyn was instore yesterday to give our windows the full Fashion Week Makeover!! They look fantastic, so head to a Tabio store quickly to get a preview of the collection and put your name down on the waiting list for her amazing designs......
Carolyn Massey’s Autumn/Winter 10/11 collection takes its inspiration from a body of military patterns sourced from an anonymous donor. Taking the collection full circle, these patterns - many from the Second World War - build on the darker military element indicative of the label - exploring it via union suits, flight suits and smocks acquired exclusively for Massey’s research.
In addition to delicate detailing and beautiful craftsmanship, Obsolete Prototype C53 see the label diversify into printing techniques. Massey has developed a deconstructed print inspired by the postal art of artist Ray Johnson with a nod to the nonchalant elegance of a young Hunter S. Thompson on his travels. Working with print designer Sam Cotton, Massey allows the print to repeat and fade, like the ‘worn’ military uniforms - compounding the nostalgic feel to the collection.
Taking its colour palette from the muted hues of the Tokyo morning sunrise the collection’s shades also echo this rose-tinted, worn and faded feel to the prints. Wool in the form of lush knitwear, cashmere, leather, and canvas are all present.
As we have come to expect from the label, Massey continues to develop her accessories line: knitted hats and scarves are present along with a lavish knitted balaclava which is also a scarf, reflecting in a contemporary manner how war informs the male dress code. This season sees another first for Massey with her collaboration with Tabio, the Japanese sock specialists to produce a stunning Mens collection.
Established in Japan in 1968, Tabio has become renowned for its beautiful products, crafted by skilled technicians who create timeless quality. The collaboration with Carolyn Massey combines the skills of the Japanese technician with the creative ability of the London based menswear designer, to launch a collection that is beautiful, elegant and made with precision detail.
Kam Jheita, a senior Tabio spokesperson says :
" It is an honour to work with such a great new talent and one that Tabio feels is destined to become a major influence in the Menswear market."
‘Carolyn Massey for Tabio’ socks from the collection will be sold exclusively in Tabio’s four London stores and in Tabio stores Japan for AW10. Massey will also exclusively design and install windows into the stores for February fashion week only.
As well as this, Carolyn Massey has been selected from emerging talent worldwide to receive Unica’s On Stage project. Selected from a panel including Vogue Italia’s Franca Sozzani,, and Pier Luigi Piana, Chairman of Unica. The sponsorship includes a sponsored trip to the show, as well as support from various mills. The project will culminate in a fashion show, presenting the collections created through this initiative; it will take place during the September 2010 edition of Milano Unica.
